YMCA of Ithaca and Tompkins County to Support Cortland YMCA
The YMCA of Ithaca and Tompkins County announced Friday that they are set to enter into a partnership with the Cortland County Family YMCA. The Cortland County Family YMCA looks to gain additional staff support and expertise without losing the individuality they’ve had for over 150 years. The Ithaca YMCA will provide assistance with grant, philanthropy, and membership growth opportunities.
Cortland Fire Department receives federal funding
CORTLAND, NY (CortacaToday) – The City of Cortland and its firefighters will benefit from Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding. The Cortland Fire Department (CFD) has been awarded about $48,000 for new protective gear and training through DHS FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFG). Binghamton, Elmira, and Whitney Point join Cortland as Southern Tier winners. Nearly $1.5 million is headed to 16 departments across the state, including the City of Auburn and Moravia in Cayuga County.
Finger Lakes Land Trust continues regional expansion in Ontario County
ITHACA, NY (CortacaToday) -The Ithaca-based Finger Lakes Land Trust (FLLT) continues to protect regional lands. The Finger Lakes Land Trust has acquired 38 acres in Richmond and South Bristol in Ontario County. It will be added to the Wesley Hill Nature Preserve near the southern end of Honeoye Lake. The Land Trust now has 428 acres of conserved lands near the lake to help maintain water quality and animal habitats.

Upper blocks of Lake Street closed all week for water and sewer work
The City of Ithaca says the 100 and 200 blocks of Lake Street, starting at University Avenue, will be closed to through traffic starting Monday, July 15 so a private contractor working with an Ithaca DPW crew can install water, sanitary sewer, and storm pipe connections for 107 Lake Street.
New York under a flash flood warning Monday night
A flash flood warning was issued by the National Weather Service on Monday at 7:52 p.m. in effect until 10 p.m. for Cayuga, Cortland, Onondaga and Seneca counties. "At 7:52 p.m., Emergency management reported thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area with creeks rising above bankfull and water approaching a house in Cayuga county. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. Flash flooding is already occurring," comments the weather service. "Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas."

Milling and paving all week on Seneca Street and Quarry Street on east hill
The City of Ithaca says crews will be working all this week beginning Monday, July 15 to mill and then pave the 100 block of North Quarry Street and the 700-800 blocks of East Seneca Street on Ithaca’s east hill. Milling and then paving is expected to last through Friday, July 19.
