Albertville City schools host STEM summer migrant camp
Albertville City schools got to host STEM summer migrant camps for 122 migrant students in June. The migrant camp was held from June 3 to June 27. The camp was among the largest of its kind ever in Alabama. The STEM camp provided students with a variety of different skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The learning activities that the kids participated in helped them with critical thinking, creativity, communication, and problem solving.
Summer Block Party to provide school supplies
Marked for Life Ministries is at work throughout the year, trying to meet a host of needs in the community. At this time of year, supplies for kids going back to school is one of those needs, and the ministry will address it with what’s become an annual back-to-school event: The Back-to-School Summer Block Party.
Slim Chickens grand opening set for July 22
Slim Chickens will be making their grand opening in Albertville on Monday, July 22. Slim Chickens will be operated by experienced restaurateurs Alan Renfroe and Dana Price. Renfroe and Price plan to bring delicious fried chicken and Southern-inspired sides to Albertville. With the new Slim Chickens location, it will make a positive economic impact with 50 new jobs being created for the Albertville community.

Julian Clyde “Jay” Davis, age 85 of Fort Payne, passed away July 19, 2024. He was born on January 24, 1939 in Jackson County to the late Carl & Irene Whitley Davis. He graduated from Jacksonville State University with a B.S. and later received his Master’s from Auburn University. He spent his career coaching football and baseball at Elmore County High School, Auburn High School, Saks High School, and Sewanee (TN) High School. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Fort Payne.

Madison County man pleads guilty to violating Iran import sanctions
HUNTSVILLE — An Owens Cross Roads man pleaded guilty this week to conspiracy to export U.S.-origin goods to the Islamic Republic of Iran in violation of trade sanctions. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Ray Hunt, also known as Abdolrahman Hantoosh, Rahman Hantoosh and Rahman Natooshas, 70, of Owens Cross Roads, was convicted of exporting U.S.-origin goods to the Islamic Republic of Iran in violation of trade sanctions.
