First of 8 Massachusetts Stop & Shop grocery stores to close Thursday, among 32 to close by November
NEWTON, Mass. — The first of eight Stop & Shop grocery store locations in Massachusetts that the company announced would close in 2024 will shut down on Thursday. A sign at the Newton store located at 165 Needham St. announced that the store would close on Thursday, Aug. 29, at 3 p.m.
Massachusetts State Police lay trooper to rest who died suddenly
Today, the Massachusetts State Police laid to rest a fellow trooper. 56-year-old Trooper Chester E. Adams of Whitman, formerly of Weymouth, died unexpectedly at home. According to an obituary, “Massachusetts State Trooper and member of the 79th RTT Chester proudly served the Commonwealth for over 18 years. He was a dedicated and well-respected member of the department known for his tireless work ethic.”

COLCHESTER – People with disabilities, their friends and families, and community members showed up in a meaningful way for the first annual Vermont Adaptive Driving Show. Held this past Saturday at UVM Medical Center’s Fanny Allen Campus, the event strove to bring the disability driving community together to promote inclusion, UVM Driving Rehabilitation instructor Heather Zuk said.
Fight over $70,000 engagement ring heads to Mass. high court
BOSTON - A battle over who gets to keep a pricey engagement ring after breaking up has made it all the way to the highest court in Massachusetts.The Supreme Judicial Court will soon hear arguments from lawyers representing Bruce Johnson and Caroline Settino. Two men accused of allegedly traveling from California to Massachusetts with cocaine and methamphetamine valued at over $10.5 million
BOSTON – Two Indian nationals were indicted by a federal grand jury in Boston yesterday in connection with the distribution of cocaine and methamphetamine. According to the Massachusetts Department of Justice, 28-year-old Simranjit Singh and 19-year-old Gusimrat of Fresno, Calif. were each charged with one count of conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine and 500 grams or more of methamphetamine, and one count of distribution of and possession with intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine and 500 grams or more of methamphetamine. Both men were arrested on July 29, 2024 and have remained in federal custody since their arrests.
Keene State men’s soccer picked fifth in LEC preseason poll
(MyKeeneNow) – The Keene State College men’s soccer team has been selected to finish fifth in the Little East Conference (LEC) preseason poll, released Monday. The Owls earned 38 points in the poll. UMass Boston, the defending LEC regular season champion, topped the poll with 63 points, including seven first-place votes. Western Connecticut State, the defending tournament champion, secured the remaining two first-place votes and garnered 56 points, finishing second. Eastern Connecticut State (45 points) and Rhode Island College (44 points) were also projected to finish ahead of Keene State.
