A Mississippi Health Department inspector was back at Church’s Chicken in Gulfport for a third corrective follow-up visit this year and again gave the restaurant at 2321 Pass Road a failing grade.

The July 16 inspection was the third C for the restaurant since May and the eighth since 2020 . It was cited for:

    ▪ Hot and cold water not available at adequate pressure

    ▪ Plumbing not installed with proper backflow devices

    ▪ Sewage wastewater not properly disposed

    Corrected during the inspection was:

    ▪ Adequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible

Restaurants and kitchens in Mississippi are rated “A” if they pass the health department inspection, “B” if all violations are corrected during the inspection and “C” if the violations are critical.

The health inspection grade must be displayed in all restaurants, in kitchens such as school cafeterias, day care centers, and cafes and bars where food is sold.

Two other restaurants also failed their inspection this week:

Sai Kitchen , 63 Hardy Court Shopping Center, Gulfport, was inspected July 17 for a permit renewal. It was cited for:

    ▪ No certified manager

    ▪ Inadequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible

    Corrected during the inspection were:

    ▪ Proper eating, tasting, drinking or tobacco use

    ▪ Food contact cleaned and sanitized

This is the second C since 2019. The prior one was in October 2023.

Pizza Inn , 530 Central Ave. West, Wiggins, was inspected July 16 for a permit renewal. It was cited for:

    ▪ Food contact surface not cleaned and sanitized, a repeat violation

    ▪ Improper cold holding temperatures, repeat violation

    Corrected during the inspection were:

    ▪ Food in good condition, safe and unadulterated

    ▪ Toxic substance properly identified, stored and used

This was the first C dating back to 2022

To date in July, 142 kitchens in South Mississippi scored a A with no violations, 37 a B and six failed their inspection with a C.
