Montgomery, AL- Alabama House Minority Leader Anthony Daniels has filed the required paperwork to register as a candidate for Congress in Alabama’s newly redrawn second congressional district.

First elected to the Alabama House in 2014, Daniels has been a leader for education, healthcare access, criminal justice reform, and economic development in rural and urban cities across the state. Under his leadership, House Democrats have fought for an agenda that builds strong and safe communities, balances the needs of big and small business, fosters economic opportunity and entrepreneurship across the state, and puts in place common sense tax policies to benefit workers and employers.

“Growing up in south Alabama was an important foundation in shaping me for the man I have become.  My family, faith and community all played a critical role. I want to ensure strong schools, safe communities, accessible and affordable healthcare, and good paying jobs are available here. We can no longer allow counties throughout the second district to have some of the highest poverty rates in the United States.  Together we can change that statistic and it’s one of the reasons I am in this race, “ stated Daniels.

As a former teacher, business owner, and public servant, Daniels has spent his career working to do what is right for the people of Alabama. He is ready to put those skills to work for communities across south Alabama – places like Midway, Alabama – where Daniels grew up. Daniels is a proud graduate of Bullock County High School and an alum of Alabama A&M University, where he earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree in education.

Daniels is the youngest House Minority Leader in state history and the first Black man to hold the position.
