Authorities say a fast-moving forest fire that has burned thousands of acres in southern New Jersey is now 60 percent contained. The blaze in the Wharton State Forest was reported early Friday. Officials believe it began in the area of the Batona Campground in Tabernacle, which was evacuated as a precaution.
NJ air quality alert: High levels of ground level ozone predicted Sunday for Jersey Shore
High levels of ground level ozone will lead to an air quality alert in New Jersey from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday, July 7, according to the National Weather Service. The region will be under a "Code Orange Air Quality Action Day" as breathing outdoors will become unhealthy for some vulnerable groups of people, according to the Mount Holly station of the weather service.

Two Men Evade Montclair Police After Intercepted Car Break-In
MONTCLAIR, NJ - Two men escaped from police last week after being caught breaking into a Montclair resident’s car and stealing a garage door opener, Montclair Police Officials announced on Tuesday. According to the Montclair Police Department, the incident occurred around 4:15 a.m. on June 27. Officers were dispatched to a Warren Place residence following a report of a burglary in progress.CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE FREE TAPINTO.NET NEWSLETTER The resident reported receiving an alert from his security system and subsequently observed two males dressed in all dark clothing with their faces covered by masks or hooded sweatshirts, and wearing gloves, walking on the property. The suspects were seen entering the resident’s Audi S8 and stealing a garage door opener. Police stated, "Responding officers arrived and located a white BMW X4 idling in the middle of the street. The vehicle was determined to be stolen from Montgomery Township. The vehicle fled west on Warren Place." A veteran public defender will lead a new effort to track police and prosecutorial misconduct in cases handled by the office, Public Defender Jennifer Sellitti announced.
