WEST ORANGE, NJ — The township has hired LEW Environmental Services to ensure that rental owners are in compliance with the new state law requiring paint inspections to detect lead. Anyone who needs to have an inspection for lead in the paint will or has received a postcard. Visual inspections must be conducted by July 22, 2021, per the NJ Lead Safe Certification Act signed by Governor Phil Murphy on July 22, 2021. Falling tree sparks fire at Tenafly home
A fire, apparently caused by a downed tree, led to the evacuation of a home in Tenafly on Saturday, July 6. No one was hurt. "It was caused by a large branch of the tree," said Lt. Paul Liautaud of the Tenafly Police Department. "Not sure what sparked the fire, but obviously something got interrupted inside the house."

RIDGEWOOD, NJ — Enjoy an afternoon of classical music at the Ridgewood Library, as they will host a piano concert for Bergen County resident Owen Smith on July 7 from 2 to 3 p.m. Seating is first come, first served. No registration required. Smith will perform pieces of Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Schumann and Brahms. Smith is 16 years old and an honor student at the Manhattan School of Music pre-college, lives in Demarest, where he attends Bergen Catholic High school. Smith started to play piano at 5 and has won prizes at several piano competitions, including the Piano Concerto Competition at Manhattan School of Music, the New York and New Jersey Piano teachers association and the International Grand Piano competition. West Long Branch firefighter faked training certificates, officials say
WEST LONG BRANCH — A firefighter is charged with forgery after being accused of tampering with records in response to an Open Public Records Act request. Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago said his office was investigating the validity of two training certificates for a firefighter with West Long Branch Fire Company No. 2 earlier in 2024. Investigators determined that Ronald Guidetti, 61, of Long Branch, created fake certificates to fulfill the OPRA request and then destroyed them, according to the prosecutor.
FDNY responds to overnight commercial building fire in Travis
