Walgreens Closing Select New York Stores
The big-name pharmacy has released a list of stores that are expected to close as the company finalizes a plan to fix its struggling business. Earlier this month we told you that Walgreens CEO Tim Wentworth announced that the company would be closing hundreds of its more than 8,600 drugstores over the next three years. Wentworth explained that "changes are imminent" for about 25% of the company’s underperforming stores, which could affect roughly 2,100 stores across the country.
Heat advisory in New York City is in effect from noon to 8 PM on July 6
NEW YORK—The National Weather Service issued a Heat Advisory for New York City from noon until 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 6. Hot and humid conditions are forecast, with heat index values potentially reaching between 98°F and 100°F (36.6°-37.7°C) in parts of the city. There is also a chance of showers and thunderstorms.
College-Bound NYC Students Earn $10,000 Milken Scholars Award
Four New York City students have been selected to join the prestigious 2024 class of Milken Scholars. The scholarship Program honors high school seniors in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles County each year with a $10,000 cash prize and lifelong access to college advising, career counseling, internship assistance, community service opportunities, and a fund to help with graduate school applications, unpaid internships, study abroad programs, and other costs associated with their pursuit of a career.
Second Phase of Redevelopment at Kingsland Commons Set to Begin this Summer
Construction on the second phase development of Kingsland Commons, the former Greenpoint Hospital Campus, is set to begin this summer. The redevelopment will include an 18-story building with 311 permanently affordable homes serving low income residents including formerly homeless individuals and families. Construction is expected to be completed in April 2027.

Bradford Police Tase Fleeing New York Man
A New York man fled police and was tased in Bradford Wednesday evening. According to the criminal complaint, Bradford City Police officers approached 32-year-old Leon A Reedus and, after confirming his identity, informed him of an active McKean County bench warrant against him.
