The story began June 21st with a Red Tail Hawk rescue and delivery to FlyAway Bird Rescue in Silver Springs, Nevada. The large raptor's eye was badly injured. Suzette Feilen, the founder and primary rehabber, looked at the bird and knew she needed to call Patricia Handle, the facility's wildlife vet immediately.

After Patricia inspected the eye she gave Suzette medicine for it and said to keep her posted on its condition. I watched both of the ladies work vigorously and gently as they ministered the much-needed care.

I was super surprised and elated to see the results of their efforts. Not only did the eye heal perfectly but it was a successful release as well.

This is why people like Suzette, Patti, and many other rehabbers out there, are so important to the care and safety of Nevada's wildlife population.
