One person was in custody after a more than five-hour standoff with a regional SWAT team and crisis negotiators in Hackensack Wednesday evening, June 26, police said.

Hackensack Police Capt. Michael Antista said only that the man was being hospitalized for evaluation after peacefully surrendering to authorities at approximately 10 p.m.

Negotiators and the county's regional SWAT team responded to 423 Hudson St. at approximately 5 p.m., where they were "having a conversation with the male" and urging him to "come out peacefully," the captain said.

It wasn't immediately clear why police were called to the home.
