Connecticut Bakery Highlighted as One of the Best in the Entire Country
Another day, another thing Connecticut is good at. When we get highlighted for things on a national level, it brings me joy because people are able to recognize our state for more than just high taxes and unbearable cost of living. Honestly though, as much as we talk negative about...

One blooming nice thing about this summer: It’s a great year for hydrangeas. Those big blue, pink and purple blossoms seem to be everywhere, even places where we didn’t notice them before. “It’s all about the weather patterns,” said Marissa Agostini, greenhouse manager at Moscarillo’s garden center and nursery in West Hartford. “It’s all seasonal, so every year is going to be different, ...

Serving Up: The Lime in the Coconut at Lenny & Joe’s Fish Tale
For more than 45 years, Lenny & Joe’s Fish Tale has been a shoreline staple, renowned for its commitment to fresh, high-quality seafood. Founded in 1979 by Lenny and Joe Goldberg, the journey began with a small seasonal “drive-in shack” in Madison, offering fresh seafood at four picnic tables. Two years later, the brothers’ passion for great food led them to open a full-service, year-round family restaurant in Clinton. Then, in 1986, the Goldbergs settled at their current location on Boston Post Road in Westbrook, continuing their dedication started at the Clinton and Madison locations. “At Lenny & Joe’s, friendly and prompt service complements the exceptional food,” said Manager Roger Voitans. “But the dedication to quality extends beyond the kitchen. Our cozy, full-service bar uses only top-shelf spirits, expertly mixed by experienced bartenders that have been with the Tale for decades.”
Haddam Garden Club: Feeling the Heat
(July 2, 2024) — This summer, so far, has been characterized by record-breaking heat and close-to-record-breaking rainfall. Hurricane Beryl, strengthened by warm oceans, was the earliest-ever Category 4 hurricane, now up to Category 5. Closer to home, suffocatingly hot afternoons give way to nights filled with thunderstorms and cloudbursts, and in the morning I can almost see steam rising from the sodden earth. Occasionally, as today, the air clears, the sky cools, and there is some welcome respite for a few days, until the heat returns. But what does it all mean for the plants?
