STORM CLEANUP CONTINUES IN CAMBRIDGE CITY
(Cambridge City, IN)--Cleanup will continue in parts of the Whitewater Valley Monday after a line of storms including strong straight-line winds swept through the area Sunday afternoon. Much of the damage was done in the Cambridge City area, where large trees came down onto structures and into power lines. The Wayne County Emergency Management Agency began checking properties in a grid pattern. No injuries were reported. Creitz Park has been closed. That’s where much of the damage occurred. As of Monday morning, Duke Energy’s website indicates that only 13 customers are still without power. Also Monday morning, the EMA was asking people with damage to report that damage through an online form that’s available on their Facebook page. The National Weather Service will be in the area Monday. Local officials say the damage does not appear to have been caused by a tornado.
NEW BUSINESS TO LOCATE NEAR URANUS
(Richmond, IN)--An ordinance for the new Uranus Fudge Factory on the former New Creations property at the state line was referred to the Richmond Plan Commission Monday night. But there was also discussion of another new business adjacent to that property. It would be located in the former New Creations gym. "Professional wrestling, bands, concerts..." said Council President Gary Turner in describing some of the events that would take place. The business's name was not mentioned Monday night. Turner said that there is a potential zoning issue and that the business is scheduled to open on the first of next month.
SMITH HILL DEVELOPMENT SENT BACK TO PLAN COMMISSION WITH REVISIONS
(Richmond, IN)--Richmond Common Council met Monday night and briefly addressed a zoning ordinance involving the proposed Smith Hill development near South 37th and Backmeyer Roads. "This proposal maintains the detached single-family houses that were included in the previous request while eliminating the apartments that were proposed on the northwest portion of the development along South 37th. Additionally, the current request excludes all commercial exceptions, which eliminates the day care facility that was originally included, said the city’s planning director. The issue goes back to the Plan Commission March 24. It will then likely come back to council on August 5.
