HAGERSTOWN, Md. ( DC News Now ) — A woman was seriously hurt after a fire broke out in her mobile home in Hagerstown.

Flames damaged a doublewide trailer Thursday night.

She was originally taken to Meritus Medical Center here but has since been transferred to the Johns Hopkins Burn Center in Baltimore.

The woman’s husband, Edward Mercer, tried to put out the fire with a garden hose before firefighters arrived.

“It got so hot in there that the couch melted, the chair melted. My wife’s got so much smoke in her lungs and she’s already got MS [multiple sclerosis] so they have her sedated in an oxygen tent,” he said.
