A Hagerstown man accused of injuring two people after shooting at a house near an elementary school in April was recently taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service and returned to Washington County.

Assistant States Attorney Dakota Parrish told a Washington County District Court judge during a bond hearing last week that the Marshals Service had recently apprehended Tyrone Ignatius Greenfield 3rd, 18, in Washington, D.C.

Greenfield is facing numerous charges, including three counts each of attempted first-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder related to an April 24 shooting in the city's West End.

Judge Terry A. Myers, on July 16, ordered Greenfield to be held without bond at the Washington County Detention Center. He cited the seriousness of the charges, allegations that a gun was used and the number of shots. Myers said the court had no alternative but to hold Greenfield without bond for the safety of the community.

Parrish noted the "overwhelming volley of handgun fire in broad daylight in a residential area" where children have played.

There is video of the incident and Parrish said it was clear the man police identified as Greenfield had a chance to leave before allegedly shooting.

Doorbell camera captures April 24 shooting in Hager's Crossing

Hagerstown Police responded to the 17600 block of Slate Way around 7:33 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24, for a report of shots fired.

Slate Way is in Hager's Crossing in the city's West End. The shooting occurred within a block of Jonathan Hager Elementary School.

Officers found numerous shell casings in a parking lot at the end of a walkway leading to the front door of a home that had several small holes in the front door, siding and windows, according to court documents. Police reported the damage was consistent with gunfire.

Ring doorbell camera footage showed a young man who appeared to enter the home around 7:32 p.m. and then immediately run out to the parking lot, turn, face the front door, produce a handgun, take a shooting stance and fire numerous times while the gun was pointed at the doorbell camera, according to charging documents.

At least 15 semi-automatic shots were fired.

The camera footage also caught a dark gray "smaller" Mitsubishi SUV in the parking lot at the end of the walkway. After the shots were fired, the SUV starts driving away while someone fires "a burst of automatic gunfire from the rear driver's side window," charging documents state.

The first shooter runs behind the SUV as it leaves and goes out of camera view, court documents state.

An older juvenile female at the home allegedly told police that a friend, Jorge Jaylen Anderson, was visiting and had brought another man, Christopher Xavier Clark, whom she didn't know, according to court documents. She went to answer the door a few minutes later and saw a young man she told police she knew as Tyrone outside as the other two men stood beside her inside the front door.

Her friend and Tyrone had a brief altercation and Tyrone ran away, court documents state. She heard numerous gunshots outside just after that and saw items flying in the house from what she thought were bullets entering the home, court documents state.

The girl told police Anderson and Clark left the house and she saw her friend limping towards a car with the other man sitting in the car complaining about being shot, court documents state.

Police, including with the help of a school resource officer familiar with the suspect, identified the first suspect as Greenfield, court documents state.

Assistant Public Defender Lance Wines told Myers that Greenfield had gone to North Hagerstown High School.

Shortly after 8 p.m., a Washington County Sheriff's Office deputy assigned to Meritus Medical Center east of Hagerstown reported to Hagerstown Police that two men with gunshot wounds came into the Emergency Department.

Anderson had two gunshot wounds, to the left arm and buttocks. Clark had gunshot wounds to his arms with it appearing one bullet went through an arm into his upper left chest, court records state.

Anderson allegedly told police he helped Clark get to his vehicle and drove to a relative's house. The relative drove both men to the hospital.

Wines told the judge that it appeared in the video that "something alarmed my client" and that the male victims' accounts to police differed. Neither man could identify the shooter, Wines said.

"So I'm supposed to disregard the video?" Myers asked.

Wines said the video shows someone responding in self defense.
