Teams dig in for ShenDig '24
(Shenandoah) -- Rain or shine--this year's ShenDig Barbecue Competition takes place this weekend. Teams from several surrounding states are setting up trailers with various barbecue equipment in the lot behind the Elks Lodge on Highway 59 for the 2024 competition. Banned Player Wins Casino Jackpot, Gets Arrested
A banned Iowa player won a jackpot in a casino, despite being self-excluded. The man, who used a fake identity, was arrested, prompting an investigation into the matter. Matthew James Wessels, 43, was a self-excluded player who enrolled in the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission’s self-exclusion program in January last year. However, Wessels couldn’t resist the temptation and eventually visited Isle Hotel Casino in Waterloo, according to reports.

Small town of Henderson preps for big RAGBRAI role
(Henderson) -- One of KMAland's smallest communities experiences a temporary population growth this Sunday. Thousands of bicycle enthusiasts and supporters are expecting to stop in Henderson en route between Glenwood and Red Oak on the first leg of RAGBRAI 51. Rachel Knight chairs Henderson's RAGBRAI Committee, and is a member of the community's vendor committee. Knight tells KMA News the community of 144 people is perhaps the smallest meeting town in RAGBRAI history. Still, she says it has big plans for riders stopping by, including a live band and plenty of food.
