A popular downtown Hanover restaurant has announced it will close permanently at the end of the month.

McAllister's on York, an upscale downtown Hanover eatery at 11 York St. announced that the restaurant's last day will be Saturday, Aug. 31, 2024.

"We have some life events that need to be a priority, and we need to step away," wrote co-owners Andrew D'Agenais and Robert Godfrey on the Facebook page for the business.

Despite the closure, the Facebook page noted that events will continue to be held by the business, such as the annual "Santa Crawl" and an upcoming "Costumes and Cocktails Crawl" event on Oct. 19, 2024.

Along with the McAllister, the duo of D'Agenais and Godfrey run the Handsome Cab Restaurant and Wine Bar in York.

McAllister's on York opened on the ground floor of the historic 1920s Hotel Richard McAllister in November of 2021 after a massive renovation to the building was undertaken by prolific local developer Jordan Ilyes.

In 2020, the property was awarded one of the first Economic Development Liquor Licenses in York County, along with the nearby OAK restaurant. Economic Development Liquor Licenses are not transferable, making it likely that the liquor license would remain tied to the 11 York St. property.
