⛽Which Wawa will be the first to open in York County? See photos of progress on the first 3.

I spent a bit of yesterday driving around York County to get some photographs of the progress on York County's first three Wawas, which are all simultaneously under construction.

From the look of things, the Dover Township location is the furthest along, followed by the Route 30 location in West Manchester Township, then our location here in Penn Township on Baltimore Street.

All three are supposed to open in 2024, Wawa confirmed a few weeks ago. The locations in Dover Township and West Manchester already have posted signs advertising jobs at the location, I doubt the Penn Township location is too far behind on that!

🏑108, yes, 108, field hockey players to watch: You heard that right! Here's 108 field hockey players from around the York-Adams area to watch this season.

A look back: The Chili Cookoff!

The Hanover Chili Cookoff is this weekend! I'm hoping to make it out for another year of chili, jalapeno eating, and good times.

I dug back through the archives and found the first year it was held was 1995, though it wasn't as big of an event when it started and there wasn't much coverage. Flash forward to 2000, though, and the fifth annual Hanover Chili Cookoff was covered pretty well by the Evening Sun.

While the event is now run by the Hanover Exchange Club, the event was originally started by KClinger's, located on Poplar Street, which ran the event at the Hanover ballfields behind KClinger's. I distinctly remember how good the chili was at KClinger's, so it makes sense!

Here's a look at some of the coverage from 2000, when Sheila Yohe, of Spring Grove, came in first place with the Pigeon Hill Special chili.

If any of y'all have feedback, pet photos, or questions, feel free to send them over to my email at hjones@gannett.com ! I will do my best to answer any questions if I can, and I will be happy to highlight any comments y'all might have.

That's it for your Tuesday Daily Briefing! See you on Wednesday!
