North East Cherry Festival Wraps Up
The North East Cherry Festival wrapped on Saturday. The day began with the 25th annual 5K where runners or walkers to could enjoy the three-mile course in downtown North East. Over 200 people participated. After the race, people could enjoy snacks and ice cream. The money raised goes to the school. The 5K was in honor of two girls killed twenty-five years ago.

A portion of Downing Avenue is set to honor the late Larry Meredith, the Erie lawyer, community advocate and the first Black city resident elected to Erie City Council. Council, during its regular meeting on Wednesday night, approved a resolution sponsored by Councilman Mel Witherspoon that designates a portion of Downing Avenue adjacent to Rodger Young Park as "Larry Meredith Way."

CCPEG Awarded Grant Funding for Improvements to Westside Overland Trail
The Chautauqua County Partnership for Economic Growth (CCPEG) has been awarded $65,000 from local foundations to make improvements to the Fred J. Cusimano Westside Overland Trail in Brokenstraw and Panama state forests. The funding will also help with trail improvements on sections of private properties south of Titus Road in Sherman. The latest improvements are part of Phase IV of the Chautauqua County Overland Trails Revitalization Project.

Columnist Releases Book Of Collection Of Columns
Local columnist Margot Russell has turned a collection of her weekly column into a book about the area. Russell has a column in the weekend edition of The Post-Journal on the front page of the Living Section each week. The idea for the book, “Back to the Lake” came from a scrapbook of her past columns that her kids gave her for her birthday one year.
Bike 'N Brew Fest attracts nice crowd on great day
The annual Bike ‘N Brew Fest, which serves as an unofficial kickoff for Oil City’s Oil Heritage Festival, was held Saturday in great weather conditions. The event which began in 2016, is coordinated by the Venango Area Chamber of Commerce and is a fundraiser for the Future Leaders and Entrepreneurs Exchange (FLEX) organization that is affiliated with the chamber.
Brocton’s Ryckman Park playground restoration completed
BROCTON — The heart of Brocton has been restored. Brocton’s Ryckman Park playground has been replaced and new equipment has been installed. The playground is now open to the public in time to enjoy the final two months of summer. Mayor Craig Miller noted the village has received “tons of compliments so far” on the new playground.

PARIS (AP) — Salt Lake City will be an Olympics host again after the IOC formally awarded the 2034 Winter Games to the United States bid. The capital city of Utah was the only candidate after the International Olympic Committee gave Salt Lake City exclusive negotiating rights last year in a fast-track contest for 2034. Salt Lake City’s final approval was in a vote Wednesday by IOC members. Salt Lake City hosted the Winter Games in 2002. Tight security surrounded those Olympics, which was the biggest international sports event in the U.S. following the Sept. 11 attacks five months earlier.

Corry man sentenced to hiding car, trying to claim insurance funds
A Corry man who hid his vehicle and tried to claim it was stolen will spend several months in the county jail as a result of a sentence handed down Friday morning by President Judge Maureen Skerda. Jonathan M. Santry, 31, was sentenced on a count of theft by deception.
