Columnist Releases Book Of Collection Of Columns
Local columnist Margot Russell has turned a collection of her weekly column into a book about the area. Russell has a column in the weekend edition of The Post-Journal on the front page of the Living Section each week. The idea for the book, “Back to the Lake” came from a scrapbook of her past columns that her kids gave her for her birthday one year.

Brocton’s Ryckman Park playground restoration completed
BROCTON — The heart of Brocton has been restored. Brocton’s Ryckman Park playground has been replaced and new equipment has been installed. The playground is now open to the public in time to enjoy the final two months of summer. Mayor Craig Miller noted the village has received “tons of compliments so far” on the new playground.
Eyeing Options: New Invasive Species Remains Focus On Lake
Emerging invasive species continue to be a main target of alliance member-led programs on the lake, particularly now during the summer growing season. For several problem species that have not yet become established at large scales, proactive management of smaller areas is often the best way to control populations at lower cost before these plants and algae spread. These types of species are often referred to as being lower down on the ‘invasion curve’, where targeted management actions are usually more cost-effective and can help prevent widespread growth.
Church donates to Fire Department
The First United Methodist Church of Westfield presented a check to the Westfield Fire Department. The church held a fundraiser for Father’s Day. Smoke signals of distress billowed across two separate horizons this past week as firefighters battled blazes both in the east Valley and on Ross Island, Southeast Portland. In the arid expanse of Maricopa County, teams from Mesa, Gilbert, and the Superstition Fire Department converged on a storage yard conflagration near Apache Trail and Mountain Road, Fox 10 Phoenix reported. While no casualties have been reported, the cause behind the flames remains a shrouded mystery, as persistent as the smoke that rose high into the Arizona sky.

PARIS (AP) — Salt Lake City will be an Olympics host again after the IOC formally awarded the 2034 Winter Games to the United States bid. The capital city of Utah was the only candidate after the International Olympic Committee gave Salt Lake City exclusive negotiating rights last year in a fast-track contest for 2034. Salt Lake City’s final approval was in a vote Wednesday by IOC members. Salt Lake City hosted the Winter Games in 2002. Tight security surrounded those Olympics, which was the biggest international sports event in the U.S. following the Sept. 11 attacks five months earlier.

ECAT Hosts Big Art Day for Local Artists
It was a big day for local and budding artists thanks to a collaboration between ECAT and the Grounded Print Shop. The Erie Center for Arts and Technology found 30 artists to work together to carve large blocks that will be used to create four-foot prints. All the pieces were then put together to create one large piece of artwork.
