Special Olympics New York says law enforcement agencies in Tompkins County helped the organization raise thousands of dollars in this month’s “Go for the Gold” campaign at area Dunkin’ locations. The Dryden Police Department, Ithaca Police Department, and Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office participated on a rainy Friday, encouraging donations to Special Olympics and offering free donut coupons and t-shirts to donors.

Big Red football to host free youth camp Saturday
ITHACA, NY (CortacaToday) – A new coach looks to get involved in Ithaca. The Cornell University football team is set to host a youth CUBS Camp this weekend. Big Red players will attend to help youth with light drills and take pictures. Cornell Dairy Barn will provide free ice cream. Incoming Head Coach Dan Swanstrom, hired in December and returning to the area after coaching at Ithaca College from 2017-2021, calls CUBS Camp a great opportunity to engage with the community and get people excited about Cornell football.
Big Red Gymnastics has 19 Athletes Earn WCGA All-America Scholar Athletes Honors
ITHACA, N.Y.- Nineteen members of the Big Red gymnastics team were named to the WCGA All-America Scholar Athlete honors, the WCGA announced Wednesday. Cornell was ranked 19th among 87 teams nationally that achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better. The team earned a 3.69 with six gymnasts posting a perfect 4.0 GPA: Eva Phair, Macy Armstrong, Melanie Stone, Rachel Zun, Regina Walton and Victoria McMillan. Kirst to Represent USA at Men’s Box World Championship for Gold
CJ Kirst, a senior from Cornell men's lacrosse, has been selected as one of 26 players to represent Team USA at the World Lacrosse Box Championships from Sept. 20-29 in Utica, N.Y. This championship will feature 29 men's teams competing for the title. Head coach Regy Thorpe praised the depth of the player pool, making roster decisions particularly tough. Kirst, who has been the Big Red's leading scorer for the last two seasons, aims to contribute to a U.S. team that seeks its first gold since winning bronze in the past five championships. He is among the only two Cornell alumni to play for Team USA since 2015, alongside Jeff Teat ’21, who represents Team Canada.
Three Earn Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete Honors
ITHACA, N.Y. -- Three Cornell softball players earned Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete Honors when the National Fastpitch Coaches Association revealed its 2023-24 list of award recipients. Overall, the organization recognized 8,054 collegiate student-athletes including Cornell rising seniors, Emma Antich (infielder) and Reagen London (catcher) alongside rising junior, Sydney Stapf (outfielder).
