NCDHHS invests $4.5M to expand N.C. Child Treatment Program and strengthen behavioral health services for children
RALEIGH — The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services today announced a $4.5 million investment in the NC Child Treatment Program, a statewide initiative to train mental health providers in trauma-informed treatment models for children with complex behavioral health needs. NCDHHS is investing to expand access to proven behavioral health treatments so young people and their families receive the support they need sooner, and in the communities where they live and learn.

New app notifies drivers of nearby high-speed chases, no NC agencies using it yet
Following another fatal high-speed chase in Spring Lake, former law enforcement officers are spreading the word about a new alert system they've developed.Tim Morgan founded the company Pursuit Alert, a warning system that allows law enforcement to notify people about ongoing high-risk situations, nearby emergencies and road hazards. Morgan served in law enforcement for 37 years; he left his role as assistant sheriff for Pickens County in South Carolina in 2012.The company has developed an app called Digital Siren for drivers, where they receive alerts about nearby high-speed pursuits. Jones sentenced to prison term for death by vehicle
A Newton woman has been sentenced in an impaired driving case from 2022 in which her vehicle struck another car, resulting in a man’s death. In Alexander County Superior Court during the August 12 term, Cierra Lashay Jones pleaded guilty to Felony Death by Vehicle, Driving While Impaired, and four counts of Felony Serious Injury and was sentenced by Judge Clifton Smith to 64-89 months, plus 16-29 months in prison.
