This past Tuesday evening, the Tribute and Honor Foundation proudly presented the 2024 Ben Farnan Scholarships to Glen Cove High School graduates Mark LaRocca and Ruben Martinez. A person was found dead inside a sleeping bag in Manhattan.The discovery was made just before 5 p.m. Friday on 207 E. 27th Street when officers responded to reports of a suspicious package.Officers then saw the sleeping bag and discovered the dead body inside.Eyewitnesses say the body was left with the trash on the street.The gender of the body is unknown. Air quality alert in effect for 5 N.J. counties until Friday night
An air quality alert was issued in effect until 11 p.m. for Passaic, Hudson, Bergen, Essex and Union counties. "The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has issued an Air Quality Action Day for the following counties: Bergen, Passaic, Hudson, Essex, and Union, From 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday. An Air Quality Action Day means that Ground Level Ozone within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards," says the National Weather Service.

Two in Police Custody After Being Nabbed with 14 Cases of Illegal Fireworks, Cops Say
The Arson Bomb Squad reports the arrest of two Franklin Square men for an incident that occurred on Thursday, July 4, 2024 at 6:18 PM in Franklin Square. According to detectives, Nicholas Moschonas, 33, of 516 3rd Street was observed setting off fireworks on the corner of 3rd Street and 2nd Avenue. Upon further investigation, it was determined that a 2019 Dodge RAM belonging to Peter Mari, 33, of 905 Hancock Avenue, was discovered with numerous boxes of fireworks inside the vehicle.
North Jersey faces poor air quality and an impending heat advisory Friday morning
After a night of Independence Day celebrations, some parts of North Jersey were dealing with poor or even unhealthy air quality levels Friday morning. As of 10 a.m. Friday morning, parts of Bergen, Passaic, Essex and Morris counties were labeled either unhealthy or unhealthy for sensitive groups, per the Air Quality Index (AQI). By 11:30 a.m., most of the region was back down to a moderate AQI.

LEVITTOWN, N.Y. -- A Long Island man is accused of giving 4th of July fireworks to an 11-year-old child, sparking a fire that damaged both his and his neighbor's homes.Police said they responded to several fireworks-related incidents Thursday across Nassau and Suffolk counties.Karamjit Singh, 33, of Levittown, was charged with arson, reckless endangerment, unlawfully selling fireworks to someone under 18, unlawfully possessing fireworks and endangering the welfare of a child.
