HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Lucky ducks! A small family of birds successfully ducked traffic thanks to help from some human friends Monday.

Troopers lent a hand after receiving multiple 911 calls about the stranded ducks, which cuddled for cover by the median wall in the area of Exit 33 around 3:47 p.m.

Upon arrival, troopers halted traffic in all lanes so the duck and its four ducklings could get back to the side of the road to safety.

However, police said the ducks came back to the roadway later the same day, causing a second response. The second time, a DMV officer got to the scene first and troopers then assisted with stopping traffic.

Due to the repetitive behavior, Hartford Animal Control was contacted to help relocate the ducks to safety.
