Owatonna VFW's season comes to an end after losses against Mayo
The Owatonna VFW baseball team’s season came to a close last weekend in the playoffs as they traveled to Rochester and played four games, winning two. Their first game was against Rochester Lourdes, winning 12-1. After losing to Rochester Mayo 18-6, they played against Rochester Lourdes and won 5-4. Owatonna had another chance to beat Mayo, but they lost 9-8 in a thriller which ended in a walk-off and ended their season. ...

The Lake Mills City Council is looking to make some repairs to the Bandshell Park after recent flooding according to City Clerk Diane Price. The miniature golf course has become very popular and did not sustain much damage after the heavy rains. The question is when the project to create a better drainage system will begin.
Storms & Heat Saturday... Another First Alert Weather Day
FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY - SATURDAY: A few showers and storms may still be around in the early morning hours. Morning lows will once again be warm ranging from the upper 60s to low 70s. While afternoon highs won’t be as sizzlin’ as Friday, it will still be toasty in the southern Valley and parts of NW MN with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s. It will still be humid as well, so we are looking at a heat index in the 90s. Storms will likely develop once again in the afternoon into the evening. There is a chance for storms to be severe with wind gusts to 60 mph and hail up to an inch in diameter. An isolated tornado risk is once again possible as well. Remain weather aware!
Several Strong to Severe Storm Chances This Weekend
It is another weekend of back to back to back chances for storms of which some could be on the strong to severe side. Like past weekends there will be a lot of dry hours and some locations won’t see showers or storms. Most chances will come through the evenings and overnight with an exception for Sunday which may start earlier in the afternoon and move into Sunday night.

At the Ag PhD Field Day in Baltic, South Dakota, Preston said his geography covers a variety of conditions. “It’s very diverse agriculture with sugarbeets, dry edible beans, potatoes and more so our people have to know recommendations because of carryover and things like that in chemistry,” said Preston. “Down here it’s predominantly corn and beans.” Preston, who is based in Hillsboro, North Dakota, said soil types also vary greatly across the region.”The (Red River) Valley is very unique and we work all the way out to the Montana border. FARIBAULT, Minn. — Contraband isn't new to prisons, but investigators are warning that Minnesota's prison system is being inundated by mail laced with synthetic opioids."I've been in this department for 27 years, and this is one of our largest problems," John Melvin, director of the office of special investigations at the Minnesota Department of Corrections, explained to WCCO Investigates.
