Upon arrival, officers observed a 2010 Nissan Rogue fully engulfed in flames on the eastbound side and multiple vehicles with heavy damage, with a 2019 Chevy Equinox on fire on the westbound side. All occupants safely exited the vehicles which were on fire before the police arrived. A female occupant from the westbound 2014 Toyota Camry was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center with what was believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

Both Route 46 East and West were completely shut down to traffic.  Hasbrouck Heights Fire Department arrived on the scene, along with Holy Name EMS and HUMC Paramedics. Both vehicles were extinguished, with a total of three vehicles being towed.

No summonses were issued at that time to any vehicle involved.

Chief Joseph Rinke thanked the Bergen County Sheriff's Department, South Hackensack and Moonachie Police for their assistance in closing the highway, and the Wood-Ridge Police, who handled calls in the borough while Hasbrouck Heights Officers were responding to the call. .
