Local Students Earn Academic Honors
Malden Catholic Students from Winthrop, MA achieves honor Roll- Fourth Quarter. Malden Catholic students have completed the coursework required for the fourth quarter of the 2023-2024 school year (this list is complete as of July 8, 2024). The school has three categories for outstanding academic performance honors: President’s List (90 – 100 in all classes), First Honors (85 to 89 in all classes), and Second Honors (80 to 84 in all classes).
Burlington Public Schools Capital Plan Draft Presented
Burlington Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Eric Conti and Operations Director, Bob Cunha, introduced a 20-year facilities plan to the School Committee at their July 23 meeting. Richard M. Barden Appointed Principal of Northeast Metro Tech
WAKEFIELD — Superintendent David DiBarri is pleased to announce that Richard M. Barden has been named as the next Principal of Northeast Metro Tech. Throughout the interview process, Mr. Barden was highly impressive. Barden began his career in 2001 as a classroom teacher at the Donald P. Timony Grammar School in Methuen. He has taught math and worked in the Methuen Public School’s Freshman Academy. He became high school Associate Principal in 2011, and Supervising Principal in 2015.
Saugus High graduate Matt Serino returns to Sachem Country as its new athletic director
Town’s native son promises to grow the individual sports programs with plenty of community involvement. Matt Serino is back home where he enjoyed some of his biggest successes in sports. The two-time state high school hockey champion for the Saugus Sachems in 2003 and 2004 is the new athletic director on the Pearce Memorial Drive campus replacing Terry Pillsbury.

BURLINGTON - Bright Bear Academy received approval from the Planning Board for a revised parking plan at its hopeful site of business at 22 A Street. Bright Bear Academy is a childcare center business. The proponents needed to submit a parking plan before moving forward with a building permit, which is why this minor engineering change appeared before the planners ahead of a site plan and special permit.

Wilmington High School Baseball Awarded ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award
WILMINGTON, MA — The American Baseball Coaches Association is proud to recognize the over 800 member college and high school programs from across the country that have been awarded the 2023-24 ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award, which is presented by Sports Attack. Teams from every level of college and high school baseball were honored with this year’s award, which highlights programs coached by ABCA members that posted a GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale for the cumulative 2023-24 academic year.
Haverhill High Principal Downs to Brief School Committee on New Policy Limiting Phone Use
Introducing a formal policy limiting phone use, Haverhill High School Principal Michael J. Downs is set to speak Thursday night before the School Committee. Though schools never allowed phones in classrooms, Downs told WHAV putting the approach in writing will help students understand expectations and staff lay down the law. He said he hopes, with the rule made clear on the first day of school, enforcement will go smoothly this coming year.
