Terrifying 'euthanasia coaster' design for ride that kills anyone who uses it

A terrifying rollercoaster has been designed to kill anyone who rides it.

Known as the 'Euthanasia Coaster,' it has been described as the "roller coaster you can only ride once." The macabre invention was thought up the designer and engineer Julijonas Urbonas. Using it, gives anyone who wants to die a way to do it with the "elegance and euphoria" of a normal rolle coaster.

Stretching over 1,600ft, the roller coaster train gets up to an alarming speed of 223mph. But it's not the speed that kills the riders but the fatal G-forces experienced during the three minute journey.

Up to two dozen people people would be strapped into their seats for a final, exhilarating ride. As the ride slowly ascends, passengers will each receive buttons labelled 'stop' and 'go'.

If even one out of 24 decides against it, the thrill ride will draw to an abrupt close for everyone on board. However, should the unanimous decision be made on onto death plunge, a few moments will be granted to riders at its highest peak to prepare and say any final words before initiating the plunge with the push of a button.

Lithuanian artist Urbonas conjured up the horrifying idea in 2010 and made into a scale model as a PhD candidate at the Royal College of Art in London.

Once in motion and up to top speeds, the coaster begins to go into loop after loop, while maintaining an intolerable 10 G's force. The design includes seven tight loops overall, which get increasingly narrower towards the end of the ride.

Despite any gradual reduction in speed, the strong force applied to carriages remains constant due to this unique design. The end result is the rider enduring around 60 seconds of harrowing G-force throughout the journey, leaving virtually no chance of survival.

Styled as the "Euthanasia Coaster", this death machine would end lives through cerebral hypoxia a severe depletion of oxygen to the brain over a brief period. After the final loop, the train eases to a full stop back at its station, with the lifeless bodies removed before the next passengers board the train.

In the exceedingly rare event of any survivors, contingency plans were in place, including the chance to go round again. Julijonas Urbonas's official website describes the coaster as "a hypothetic death machine in the form of a roller coaster, engineered to humanely with elegance and euphoria take the life of a human being".

Debuting in 2011 as part of the HUMAN+ showcase in Dublin, it was the flagship exhibition at the Science Gallery. Euthanasia continues to ignite fierce global debate, with numerous nations including a number of US states still banning it outright.

Assisted suicide is legal in 10 states in the US including Washington DC, California, Colorado, Oregon, Vermont, New Mexico, Maine, New Jersey, Hawaii, and Washington.
