    Hawarden man receives probation for possessing fentanyl

    HAWARDEN, Iowa ( KCAU ) —  A man who received possession charges after reporting the overdose of another person at his home was sentenced as part of a plea agreement.

    According to court documents, Chase Ranschau, 23, of Hawarden, was on trial for three counts of possession of a controlled substance. The court dismissed two of the charges in exchange for a guilty plea.

    Ranschau was sentenced to three years of probation and will have to complete the Plymouth County Drug Court program. He was further ordered to pay more than $1,000 in fines.

    Ranschau received the charges after a search warrant was executed for an incident that occurred at his residence in November , according to complaint documents.

    The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office states that Ranschau reported an overdose at his home in Hawarden. Police used Naloxone on the person, and they were able to recover. Ranschau was arrested after police found fentanyl and meth while searching the residence.
