Des Moines woman wins $500,000 Iowa Lottery prize
DES MOINES, Iowa — Is this heaven? No, it's Iowa. But for one recent Iowa Lottery winner, the two may as well be one in the same. Melissa Runnels of Des Moines took home a $500,000 prize, the 11th top prize in the Iowa Lottery's "$500,000 CA$H" scratch game. She purchased her winning ticket at Git N Go (1307 Army Post Rd.) in Des Moines.

A couple was arrested after staying in a motel without paying, according to the Ottumwa Police Department. 30-year-old Mercedes Reisch of Eldon (Left) was charged with 3rd degree theft – 2 prior convictions – property not exceeding $750, possession of controlled substance – methamphetamine – 1st offense, and burglary – 3rd degree – non vehicle.

"You should always do the slip and slides whenever you see one," said the 35-year-old Iowa City cyclist who is riding in his sixth RAGBRAI this year. (Omaha) -- One of KMAland's leading indicators still shows the region's economy stuck in the mud. Creighton University's Rural Mainstreet Index report sank below growth neutral for the 11th straight month. The survey of bank CEOs in a 10-state region--including Iowa, Nebraska and Missouri--show July's overall reading at 41.3--down from 41.7 in June, and lowest reading since November, 2023.
