Man's body found in pond at NOVA Woodbridge campus
Police are investigating the death of a 20-year-old man whose body was found Friday in the pond at Northern Virginia Community College in Woodbridge. Officers were called to the school at 2635 College Drive about 3:20 p.m. after campus police found the personal belongings of an individual, later identified as a 20-year-old man, near the pond and contacted Prince William County police. A short time later, the man’s body was located and recovered from the pond by fire and rescue crews.

Fifth suspect wanted in Manassas Mall shooting arrested
A fifth man wanted in connection with a July 9 shooting outside Manassas Mall was arrested Monday. Tayvion Omari Thornton, 18, of the 1400 block of Cove Drive in Woodbridge, faces charges of principal in the second degree malicious wounding, carrying a concealed weapon, principal in the second degree willfully discharging a firearm in a public place and using a firearm in the commission of a felony, Prince William County police Lt. Jonathan Perok said in a news release.
Dufek Sworn in as Purcellville Police Chief
Members of the county’s law enforcement community gathered in Purcellville on Friday to celebrate the town’s new police chief, Barry Dufek. Dufek replaces Cynthia McAlister who retired from the position in May. Dave Dailey, who had served as deputy chief under McAlister, served as interim chief while the town was searching for a permanent replacement. Dailey also retired earlier this month.
