HAYMARKET, Va. ( DC News Now ) — A judge has decided that a man accused of plotting a mass shooting at a church in Haymarket last year is fit to stand trial.

The Prince William County Police Department said on Monday, Sept. 25, 2023, 35-year-old Rui Jiang, of Falls Church, was arrested after he made threats online about how he was going to shoot up congregants at the Park Valley Church.

Man indicted for threatening to kill Prince William County church members

His case was placed on hold when a judge ordered a competency hearing.

It turned into a federal case because prosecutors believed Jiang selected his victims due to their religious beliefs.

His trial is set for Oct. 21.
