Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall announced the arrest of Representative Kelvin Jamichael Lawrence (D-Hayneville) Tuesday. Lawrence, who has represented District 69 since 2014, was arrested on two felony charges.

Marshall made the announcement in a statement released June 9. Charges included forgery in the second degree and criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second degree.

Lawrence, 50, is a Lowndes County resident and former mayor of Hayneville. His indictment alleges the Alabama representative, with the intent to defraud, falsely made, completed or altered a builder’s license.

“Both forgery and criminal possession of a forged instrument are Class C felonies punishable by one year and one day to 10 years in prison,” Marshall wrote in the statement.

The Attorney General’s Special Prosecutions Division is prosecuting the case. No further information is available and this article will be updated as new information emerges.
