Attempt to escape burning Shawnee home leads to pedestrian-vehicle collision
SHAWNEE, Kan. (KCTV) - An attempt to escape a burning Shawnee home sent one woman to a nearby hospital after she was hit by a car. The Shawnee, Kansas, Fire Department says that just before 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 21, emergency crews were called to the 7700 block of Nieman Rd., near Advance Auto Parts, with reports of a house fire. Crews from Shawnee, the Lenexa Fire Department, the Overland Park Fire Department and Jonson County MED-ACT all responded.
Grace Health Day scheduled for Sept. 28

The man has been identified as 18-year-old Branden Baskin, who lived in Kansas City, Kansas. One juvenile and two adults have been taken into custody.

Topeka man arrested for alleged drug possession in Osage County Saturday
A Topeka man was taken into custody on suspicion of drug possession in Osage County Saturday. According to Osage County Sheriff Chris Wells, an Osage County Deputy initiated a traffic stop at 1:35 pm Saturday for an alleged traffic violation at the intersection of US Highway 56 and South Topeka Avenue. During a search of the suspect vehicle, driven by 27-year-old Aaron M. Griffith of Topeka, illegal narcotics were allegedly located.

Lawrence school board to consider approving teacher raises, handbook that bans cell phone usage
Lawrence teachers could receive raises and several staff members stipend increases this fall, based on the tentative contract up for the school board’s approval Monday. Lawrence Education Association, the district’s teachers union, came to an agreement with the district during a negotiations meeting on June 25. At this time, the State of Kansas is not able to process any motor vehicle transactions. Included in the outage is the Barton County Treasurer’s Office. However, the Treasurer’s Office is open for business and can process other work, including tax payments.
