Hayward man injured in motorcycle crash on I-90

A Hayward man was injured Wednesday morning after a crash on his motorcycle east of Oakland in Freeborn County.

David Smith, 75, was taken to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester for injuries deemed not life threatening, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The crash report states Smith was driving a 2023 Harley-Davidson tricycle eastbound on I-90 when the bike, and possibly another unknown vehicle, made contact on the interstate at 10:22 a.m. The tricycle then went into the ditch.

The report states the roads were dry at the time of the crash.

Smith was not wearing a helmet, and alcohol was not a factor with him.

Mayo Clinic Ambulance, Hayward Fire and Rescue, and the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
