The Rotary Club of Hayward Area, a service organization composed of a broad cross-section of the local community, recently installed three benches and a table at the park/playground at the intersection of Nyman Ave. and West Radio Hill Rd. in Hayward.

The four items were a donation by the Club and they were installed using volunteer club labor.

The items were purchased by the club for approximately $7,000. The project garnered a wide Rotary focus, with clubs from Stillwater snd Prior Lake, MInnesota, Barron and Rice Lake donating funds to help the cause.

Further, Rotary District 5960 contributed $3,000 via a grant the Hayward Club submitted under the direction of long-time member Ed Haugen.

Community volunteer Cheryl Treland was the champion of the recent park expansion and upgrade. Treland commented, “The First Lutheran Community Park Committee thanks the Hayward Club, and the other contributing Rotary clubs, for their purchase and installation of three beautiful benches and an ADA picnic table. These are being used and enjoyed by parents and their kids enjoying the playground, and as a cool down area for older ‘kids’ exercising on the fitness equipment or passing by on the City path.”

The Rotary Club of Hayward Area meets twice monthly for community and educational sessions, as well as participates in a variety of community service activities. Interested community members are invited to consider membership. Please reach out to haywardarearotary@gmail.com.
