Sisters create local candle business to promote safety
OWENSBORO, Ky. (WEVV) - Two sisters in Owensboro have started a thriving new business called 'Duck and Bean' to promote a safer alternative of burning a candle in your home. A little over two years ago, Andi Hall was diagnosed with breast cancer. After hearing her diagnosis, she looked into what could have been the cause and as a result she found the many dangers chemicals in candles can have on the human body.
Hallmark Channel to film Christmas short in Norton Commons next week
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — You've heard of Christmas in July, but now it's Christmas in August at Norton Commons. The Hallmark Channel will be in Norton Commons beginning Tuesday, Aug. 20 through Thursday, Aug. 22 filming a Christmas short. The filming will be by the South Village Lawn around the fountain on Meeting Street.
Hornets host Harlan County for first scrimmage
SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County hosted Class 5A, District 8 member Harlan County for its first scrimmage in the 2024 high school football preseason on Saturday, Aug. 10. Both Magoffin County and Harlan County opened preseason practice in July, following the conclusion of the KHSAA Dead Period. The Hornets and Black Bears aren’t scheduled to meet in the 2024 high school football regular season.
Former NPR CEO, Bellarmine trustee John Lansing dies
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The former CEO of NPR, a Bellarmine graduate and former trustee has died. John Lansing was 67 years old. His cause of death hasn't been released. Lansing got his start as a studio technician and camera operator at a TV station in Paducah, Kentucky. He eventually became president of Scripps Network, which owns Food Network and HGTV.
