The first day of the show on August 2, 2024, will feature a Leadership Conference and Career Fair from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at McCormick Place in Chicago. CHICAGO — An 18-year-old man was ordered detained as a safety risk after he allegedly displayed a machine gun while filming a music video on the Chicago Riverwalk. Police responded to a 911 call about people with guns near City Winery, next to the Dearborn Street bridge, around 8:30 p.m. on July 15, a CPD report said. The caller told police that four men and four women were flashing guns and filming a music video near the bridge.

Three charged in murder of Chicago firefighter
Three men have been charged in connection with the 2023 murder of a Chicago firefighter and associated financial crimes. Nicholas Virgil, 37, a resident of the 14200 block of South Stewart Avenue in Riverdale, and Martez Cristler, 22, a resident of the 6800 block of Baring Avenue in Hammond, Ind., were both charged with three counts of murder, one count of aggravated arson and two counts of arson in connection with the death of Chicago firefighter Jermaine Pelt.

CHICAGO — A Cook County judge sentenced a man on Thursday to 15 years in prison for viciously attacking and robbing a 75-year-old woman outside a Portage Park grocery store. Oswaldo Garza, 47, was also accused of mugging a 79-year-old woman and an 85-year-old woman outside the same store in separate attacks, but prosecutors dropped those cases before trial, court records show.

Westfield veteran calls for change to property tax law
A Westfield veteran has started a grassroots campaign to lobby elected leaders at the state level to increase the property tax deduction for veterans in Indiana. Mike Madigan served in the U.S. Marine Corps in Vietnam. An Illinois native who lived in Wisconsin before moving to Indiana in 2020, Madigan said when he moved to Westfield, he was surprised to find the property tax exemption in the Hoosier State is far different from what was available in Wisconsin.
