HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – Officials have announced Ellis Park will be closed to the public until further notice.

A release from Kentucky Racing Communications says the opening day card scheduled for July 4 will be run without patrons due to a grandstand maintenance issue. Fans will be available to watch and wager on all races at Ellis Park still on www.twinspires.com , FanDuel TV and the Churchill Downs LIVE app on smart TVs.

“This was a really difficult decision we had to make this morning but due to an unscheduled maintenance issue we will have to conduct today’s race card without patrons,” General Manager Matt Pressley said. “We are still going to run all nine races as scheduled. We will update everyone as soon as we can when the facility will be back open to fans.”

Officials say the maintenance issue was related to the racetrack’s water supply and was a result of severe weather in the Tri-State. They said the water tank was able to fill up t a level to keep racing operations on as normal, but not to the level to open the grandstand for patrons.

    This is a developing story.
