HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – Chloe Fredrick is an eight-year-old girl diagnosed with Prader-Willi Syndrome from Henderson, Kentucky. Her mother says she loves Barbies, baby dolls and playing with all the other kids. She says she has a big heart for a little girl, she also says Chloe was left paralyzed after a recent surgery.

    Chloe’s Journey

Chloe was diagnosed with Prader-Willi Syndrome, a disorder that effects 1 in every 15,000 people. According to the Mayo Clinic, Prader-Willi Syndrome a rare genetic disorder that results in a number of physical, mental problems. One of these problems is the inability to feel full after eating.

Her mother, Chelsea Fredrick, says she was also diagnosed with scoliosis. Fredrick says Chloe’s team of specialists decided to do spinal surgery in order to protect her organs from shifting.

Fredrick says after Chloe’s surgery, her family received heartbreaking news. Doctors told them that Chloe has an edema, also known as swelling on the spinal cord. This edema left Chloe paralyzed. She is now bound to a wheelchair.

“Her first therapy session was when she was four months old, now we are back to square one,” said Chloes mother Chelsea Fredrick.

    How does Chloe feel?

Though the news was devastating to Chloe’s family, she continues to do what any other eight-year-old would do. She spends her days playing with baby dolls and Barbies.

“She has been surprisingly brave. She has been her usual bubbly self,” said Chelsea Fredrick.

Chloe’s mother says while their family works on getting Chloe in more physical therapy, her little girl continues to be the same she was before the surgery.

    Chloe’s Future

Chloes step grandmother and mother have set up a GoFundMe to help with the costs of Chloe’s medical bills. To donate to Chloe’s GoFundMe, click here .

“You are never prepared for something like this, you’d never see it coming,” said Chloe’s step grandmother Tonya Fredrick.

Chloe’s family says the next part of her journey is getting her back into physical therapy, with the hope of one day regaining the use of her legs.

Chloe’s family will continue to help her get to the places she needs, manage her Prader-Willi Syndrome and play with her every day. Chloe will continue to play with babydolls and be her usual bubbly self.
