HENRIETTA, N.Y. (WROC) — The Riverton Oaks Municipal Golf Course in Henrietta is now open. Riverton is a nine-hole golf course and also has a disc golf course.

The official opening day was May 7, and they plan to be open until about Thanksgiving.

While the town always owned the course, a previous business operated the course and the clubhouse. Now, Henrietta operates the course, and they are working on finding a new operator for the clubhouse.

Golf course superintendent, Charlie Remelt, says this followed extensive work by town workers –
to bring the course back. He says that using town workers saves taxpayers money, and offers a new promotional path for their groundkeeping crews.

Some of the work included tree clearing, restoring pond levels, and redoing the sand traps. The town will continue to upgrade its irrigation systems.

“If you’re playing from the back tees, it’s a very difficult golf course, it’s been compared to Oak Hill East in the past,” Remelt said. He worked at the course as a teenager. “But we also have some forward tees that over the next couple years we’ll be expanding a little bit.”

The town supervisor of Henrietta, Steve Schultz, added this on further development in the Riverton community:

“There will be a riverwalk trail that goes from Ballantine bridge, going down to the Lehigh Valley Black Diamond trail, that crosses the Genesee River down in Rush.”

There is also a nearby housing tract that is under construction.
