San Francisco, California – The California Public Utilities Commission has set aside $32 million to improve internet connectivity in San Francisco, Oakland, and Fremont in a significant attempt to close the digital gap. Designed to link underprivileged areas all throughout the state, this money is part of the first payment from the $2 billion Last Mile Federal Funding Account Grant Program.

Martinez Looks to Establish Diversity and Cultural Commission
At its July 17 meeting, the Martinez City Council will look to establish its Diversity and Cultural Commission. The council has discussed creation of this commission for more than a year and the ordinance comes after direction from its May 15 study session where it was seeking to form the commission focusing on community initiatives that promote diversity, equality, inclusion and belonging.

The Castle Valley Barracudas played host to the San Rafael Stingrays on Tuesday for their second meeting in three weeks. With the events staring off in the 10&U Mixed 100 Yard Medley Relay, the team of Jaycee Frandsen, Eliza Irvine, Luke Grant and Bringham Bradford received the win with a time of 1:30.84. In the 11-12 200 Mixed Medley Relay, Genevieve Halk, Carson Bower, Susannah Irvine and Maeve Bradford placed first in their group with a time of 2:41.29. Finishing the Mixed Relays, in the 13-18 200 Yard Medley Relay, Mason Engar, Cohen Sullivan, Logan Kranendonk and Asher Thayne brought home the gold with a time of 2:19.86.
Oakland police investigate stabbing in Coliseum neighborhood
Police in Oakland are investigating a stabbing late Monday that left one victim injured not far from the Oakland Coliseum, according to authorities.Police said the stabbing occurred on the 7100 block of Hamilton Street a few blocks from Hegenberger Rd. just before 12 p.m. Arriving officers found a victim who sustained at least one stab wound. Responding paramedic personnel arrived at the scene to assist and transported the victim to an area hospital where they are listed in stable condition. Police said the stabbing is under active investigation. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Oakland Police Department Felony Assault Unit at (510) 238-3426. Mill Valley residents accustomed to the convenience of the Manzanita Park and Ride lot will need to find an alternate parking arrangement for a short period this July. Due to the anticipated high tide flood warnings, Caltrans has announced a closure of the lower half of this frequently used lot from Friday, July 19, through Monday, July 29.
