YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — Organizers of a program to teach young people to become lifeguards are hoping their recent successes will encourage more kids to enroll. Friday morning, seven students with the Youngstown Lifeguard Academy showed off some of their skills as recently-certified scuba divers. Organizers of the course say these teenagers are making history in the Valley by pursuing something few inner-city young people ever want to try.

GC’s Ogoreuc wins 2 national shooting championships, will compete on USA Junior World Team
Grove City High School’s Jack Ogoreuc continued his remarkable marksmanship at the recent USA Shooting National Championships at Fort Moore, Ga. He won the Smallbore 3 Position national championship for U18 with scores of 576-20 and 580-26 for an aggregate of 1156-46. In Air Rifle he captured the U18 national championship with the following scores of 619.2 and 623.8 for an aggregate of 1243. His performances in both rifles earned him a spot on the USA Shooting Junior World Team that will compete at the ISSF Junior World Championships in Lima, Peru, from Sept. 26 through Oct. 7 this year....

Hiram College graduate Grace Wilson aspires to become the head coach of a college volleyball program one day and is getting closer to reaching her goal. The 2017 Terriers’ alum is now coaching for a Division I program, having been named as the first assistant coach for Youngstown State University on June 4.
