    Firefighters halt brush fire at Mojave River Forks Regional Park in Hesperia

    A brush fire ignited at Mojave River Forks Regional Park in Hesperia on Friday afternoon and quickly scorched more than five acres of brush before its progress was halted by firefighters, officials said.

    The Mojave Fire was first reported about 6:05 p.m. at the park along Highway 173, southwest of Arrowhead Lake Road, according to San Bernardino County Fire Protection District logs.

    It was initially reported at 2 acres, with flames burning on both sides of the highway, according to CAL FIRE officials.

    Firefighters at the scene reported via radio that the fire grew to about 5 acres and was burning with a rapid rate of spread through medium to heavy vegetation.

    Forward progress was declared halted at 7 p.m., according to CAL FIRE.

    No information regarding the cause of the fire was available.
