High Times at High West
Utah’s High West Distillery moved production operations from its downtown Park City gastropub to a state of the art distillery in nearby Wanship. The mountaintop distillery is producing award-winning whiskies and equally winning awards for its food and bar programs. This week, High West celebrated its annual Protect The West gala to raise money for three regional charities, and raised $100,000. We’ll visit the distillery and talk with Master Distiller Brendan Coyle on this week’s WhiskyCast In-Depth. In the news, Buffalo Trace has a French flair for the Paris Olympics, and we’ll look at the latest auction results.
The Hillbilly Thomists to play free show at St. Mary’s Social Hall Friday
The Hillbilly Thomists, a band of Dominican friars who make bluegrass music together, are playing a free show at St. Mary’s Social Hall in Park City on Friday at 6:30 p.m. All eight members are working friars with active ministries/humanitarian causes outside of music — many are university chaplains, one feeds unhoused people in NYC’s Washington Square Park, one is a theology author and president of Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome.

Guest Editorial: Bill’s excellent adventure with public transportation in Europe
Editor’s note: Park City Councilor Bill Ciraco is chronicling his exploration of public transportation in Europe in a series of commentaries, beginning with this one. Pioneer Day is expected to make official Salt Lake City’s — and by association Park City’s — role as host city for the 2034 Winter Olympics. This seemed to be an opportune time to travel to Paris and a nearby country that inspired my thoughts on what transportation could do for the Wasatch Back. I would combine a trip to Switzerland with three nights in Paris from July 23-26 to take part in the SLC 2034 Bid Committee festivities there. Disclaimer — none of my trip is being paid for by Park City — this is entirely self funded because I am that focused on transforming what transportation looks like in and around Park City.
