HIGH POINT, N.C. (WGHP) — The High Point Rockers baseball team is mourning the loss of their chairman.

In an Instagram post made Sunday, the Rockers announced the passing of Coy O. Willard, Jr., the chairman of the board of the High Point Downtown Stadium Foundation.

He died Sunday after a long battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

According to the post, Willard passed away at home surrounded by his family.

“Coy was loved by his family and friends, admired by those he worked with and respected throughout the High Point Community,” the post says.

At the Rockers game Sunday evening, each player wore a “Coy” patch on their jerseys to honor Willard. A moment of silence was held before the game.

The Rockers won the series finale from Charleston Dirty Birds, scoring 5-1.

“Our players felt his presence here today,” said Rockers manager Jamie Keefe.
