Lake-blocked to the east and essentially landlocked in the other directions, compact Evanston can’t get any bigger. In fact, it seems to have shrunk. For years, Evanston officially contained 8.5 square miles of land. About 20 years ago, though, when the ward boundaries were being redrawn, the late activist Debbie Hillman noticed that the whole of Evanston was about a half square mile smaller than the sum of its parts. Illinois health system's name to adorn $100M soccer complex
Evanston, Ill.-based Endeavor Health has secured the naming rights for a new $100 million soccer complex in Chicago. The Endeavor Health Performance Center, set to open in January, will host training for MLS' Chicago Fire as well as youth camps and clinics. The naming rights agreement goes through 2029, spokespeople from Endeavor Health and the Fire told Becker's, declining to reveal the financial terms of the deal.

Fifth ward school to be named “Foster School” at groundbreaking, decades in the making
In 2005, Evanston native Jerome Summers started his fight to reopen a 5th Ward neighborhood school, Foster School, which he had attended through the fifth grade in the ‘60s. That is until he began getting bussed to the primarily white Lincolnwood Elementary as part of the city’s integration initiative that, he said, ended up being “terrible” for the community.
Section of Noyes Street closed to traffic July 24-31
A series of crane lifts are planned for July 24 through July 31, excluding weekend days, to replace cell communication equipment on the roof of a building at 2225 Ridge Ave. Noyes Street will be closed to vehicle traffic in both directions at the 1000 block (between Ridge Avenue and Maple Avenue), from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day. Pedestrian traffic will also be obstructed in the immediate work area on the south side of Noyes Street. According to the crane contractor, the alleys will remain unobstructed during this scope of work.
