Here in the south, we know about revival services and tent revivals, but what is a “rock ‘n rollin’ revival? Well, it has nothing to do with rock and roll music, that’s for sure. The “rock” has two meanings for these unique revival services. The first being a reference to our God. In the Book of Psalms, one can find many references to the Lord, as being addressed as our “Rock.” The Lord is my Rock, and my Deliverer; my God, my strength in whom I will trust. (Psalm 18:2) The Lord liveth; and blessed be my Rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted. (Psalm 18:46) That’s what this special series of revival services are all about: to exalt and praise God; to renew our spirits as well, and with prayer and hope someone may give their life to Jesus.

The second meaning of the word” rock” in the title, “Rock ‘n Rollin’ Revival, is that it refers to the rock churches built by Rev. Robert Childress, Sr. that are participating in the revival services. Rev. Childress built seven rock churches in the Carroll County and Floyd County area and three of them will be involved in this revival service. They are Buffalo Mountain Presbyterian Church, Bluemont Presbyterian Church, and Dinwiddie Presbyterian Church.

During the week, we will be traveling or “rollin’ from church to church. So, we are using a play on words and calling this unique revival a “Rock ‘n Rollin’ Revival. Each night’s services will begin at 7:00 p.m. and each service will include special music, the Word being preached and afterwards a time of fellowship and refreshments will be served.

The first night’s revival service, on Monday, July twenty-nineth, will be at Fairview Presbyterian Church, located at 15 Fairview Lane in Hillsville. Fairview is not a rock church, nor was it built by Rev. Childress, but it is where the “rock ‘n rollin’” revival journey will begin. Pastor Marc Jones will bring the message and the praise team “Just As We Are” will provide the music. Following the service, meet in the fellowship hall and make your own ice-cream sundae.

For the second night’s revival service, Tuesday July thirtieth, we will “roll on” to Buffalo Mountain Presbyterian Church, the first rock church built by Rev. Robert Childress, Sr. located at 2102 Childress Rd, Willis, VA 24380. Rev. Stewart Childress, grandson of Robert Childress, Sr., will bring the message. Special music will be provided by Robbie & Betty Vance, Nora Tracy, Michael Gould and Jody Hanet and the Buffalo Mtn. Choir. Refreshments will be served in the fellowship hall following the service.

For the third night services, Wednesday, July thirty-first, we will “roll on over” to Bluemont Presbyterian Church, one of the rock churches located on the Blue Ridge Parkway, built by Rev. Robert Childress, Sr. The church is located at 47 Bluemont Ln, Hillsville, VA 24343, at Milepost # 192. Rev. Jeff Garrison will bring the message and Richard Hill of Pilot Mountain will provide the music. Also, followed by a time of fellowship and refreshments.

The fourth and final night, Thursday, August first, will be at Dinwiddie Presbyterian Church, the last rock church built by Rev. Childress. It is located at 2698 Homestead Rd, Hillsville, VA 24343. Rev. Ted Grant, interim pastor at Dinwiddie, will bring the message and special music will also be provided by Rev. Rebeca Taylor, Pastor of the Hillsville Presbyterian Church. Following the service will be a wiener and marshmallow roast.

We hope you and your family will join us each evening as we “rock ‘n roll” from one church to the other and enjoy worshiping the one true God, singing His praises, and having fellowship with one another. To God Be the Glory!
