Durbin requests federal help for students hurt by recent college closings
Illinois U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin is asking the federal government to help students left in the lurch by the abrupt closings of two Chicago-area colleges this month. In a letter Friday to the U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona, Durbin asked that the feds “take immediate action to assist students” of Northwestern College and the American Academy of Art College. Both schools closed in early July, citing financial struggles.
Illinois’ Largest Privately Owned Water Utilities Seek Rate Increase Amid Lawmaker Scrutiny
The two largest privately owned water utilities in Illinois are seeking to raise rates for a combined 1.5 million customers around the state. Illinois American Water, which serves 1.3 million people, is seeking a $152.4 million rate increase. That corresponds to a $24 per month increase in water service bills and $5 per month increase in wastewater service for the average residential customer.

(The Center Square) – Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed 68 bills Friday that affect drivers, those who violate immigration laws, victims of child abuse, mobile homes and more. During the spring session that ended in May, the Illinois General Assembly approved more than 450 bills out of both chambers.
