LKLP new executive director announced
LKLP Community Action Council, Inc. has announced Tawny R. Acker as the agency's new executive director. Acker, according to a statement from LKLP, has worked in LKLP Administration as the program development director for 17 years. Acker, the statement said, is, "excited about this opportunity to be at the helm of LKLP and leading the charge to positively impact thousands of people across the agency's four-county service area, the Kentucky River Area Development District and the state."
Hurricanes and earthquakes grab headlines but data shows inland counties top disaster list
Floyd County keeps flooding and the federal government keeps coming to the rescue. At least 40 people died and 300 homes were damaged when the eastern Kentucky county flooded in July 2022. It was the 13th time in 12 years that the rural county was declared a federal disaster. These are disasters so costly that local governments feel they can’t pay for it all, so the governor asks the president to declare a disaster freeing up federal funds.
North Fork Music Festival returning
HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - The North Fork Music Festival is just around the corner. The event will be located on Main Street in downtown Hazard on July 26 and 27. The music festival fun will start on Friday. The stage will be on Main Street. Food truck, vendors and seating will be located on The Grand.
