HINTON W.Va. (Hinton News) — As the summer season unfolds, communities across the nation are stepping up to address the persistent issue of food insecurity. In a heartening display of solidarity, a local organization is launching a Summer Free Store initiative on the second and fourth Saturdays throughout the summer of 2024 in the Roses parking lot in Hinton.

The event, organized by Backyard Ministry, aims to provide essential items to individuals and families in need, offering a helping hand during these challenging times. Scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon, the Summer Free Store will offer help all summer.

One of the big differences between the Summer Free Store and other food pantries is that the Backyard Ministry program will feature cold foods such as milk, cheese and lunch meat, as well as fresh fruits and vegetables.

Residents keen on contributing to this noble cause are encouraged to donate items to the Summer Free Store. From coolers for temporary use to perishable essentials like milk, cheese, and lunch meat, every contribution counts in ensuring no one goes hungry this summer.

In addition, the Free Store welcomes donations of fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as toiletries and cleaning supplies. Such provisions not only address immediate nutritional needs but also foster hygiene and well-being within the community.

The Summer Free Store serves as a testament to the power of collective action and compassion. By pooling resources and spreading awareness, Backyard Ministry is forging a path toward a more equitable society.
